Spanish Moss Inn
The Inn is an exquisitely restored 1808 Federal era home in the heart of Savannah's historic district. The Inn features five luxurious guest rooms with fireplaces in four of the five rooms. Each room is uniquely appointed with furniture of period design. Rooms to the front of the Inn overlook Emmet Park and the Savannah River. You will enjoy a view of the Savannah River through the Spanish Moss draped Oak trees as ships pass by. Rooms to the back of the Inn overlook our garden and neighboring historic homes. The Dormer room offers both views. Our concierge and our chef will greet you each morning with a friendly smile and gourmet breakfast to help start your day of exploration. The Inn is located on Bay St. across from Emmet Park, a beautiful, tree-shaded park named for Irish patriot and orator Robert Emmet. Found here are many Memorials and the historic Harbor Light (1858), a gas-powered light erected as a navigational aid to vessels in the Savannah River. The light stands 77 feet above the river and helped ships avoid the hulls of ships scuttled by British forces during the siege of 1779 in an effort to prevent French warships from using the harbor. A few steps from Emmet Park and you are at cobblestoned River Street overlooking the Savannah River. Within a very short walking distance of our Inn you will discover a "noble sequence of wooded and gardened squares . . . form the glory of the city" as described by William Dean Howells almost 100 years ago. Also within a very short walking distance there are museums, fine dining and shopping.
